Fields of activity

The railway system has been highly successful for almost 200 years and is still the most environmentally friendly and efficient transport system for people and goods today. The technical and economic success is based not least on a positive life cycle of the network, the components of which must be precisely coordinated and optimised to local conditions.

The optimisation of the life cycle management of railway infrastructure is the task of infrastructure managers. Global Rail Trust supports them in making the railway system even more successful. The companies of the Global Rail Group are engaged in the following fields of activity in the field of railway infrastructure technology.

For these fields of activity, we offer solutions for installation, monitoring, repair and renewal. The aim is to optimise the life cycle of the facilities and the maintenance processes technically and economically:

Track geometry

Track geometry covers the basics of track alignment, innovative methods of track surveying, monitoring and quality control of the permanent and precise track geometry as well as the maintenance work carried out.

Turnout

This field of activity focuses on all maintenance-related topics of turnouts: various types of construction, turnout inspection and measurement and a component-specific condition description aimed at optimising asset management.

Rail

This field includes the physical understanding of the wheel-rail interaction, the consideration of the rail as a track including all track guiding properties. The implementation of wear analyses up to the planning of resource-optimised replacement operations are a relevant part of these activities.

Superstructure

This field of activity aims at basic analysis, such as the dissipation of forces from train traffic, through planning and construction to maintenance. The focus is placed on holistic considerations including their interactions and interdependencies.

Catenary

This field of activity includes the planning principles, material selection, innovative measuring methods for position and wear detection as well as economically supported life cycle considerations. In addition, a wide variety of overhead contact line systems are compared and evaluated.

Engineering structures

A range of services relating to all aspects of the inspection of engineering structures that have a direct impact on the track, such as the recording and evaluation of conditions using state-of-the-art measuring vehicles.

Railway environment

This field includes both the handling of technical, organisational, financial and legal issues as well as the basic knowledge required to create a sound understanding of the overall railway system.

Mechanical engineering

The focus of this field of activity is the imparting of technical fundamentals of machines, devices and work aggregates for the construction, maintenance and repair of the railway track including all associated components, characteristics and facilities.

Digital twin

The digital twin forms the basis for the sustainable optimisation of the railway track. This includes both the recording of measurements of the track and the possibility of displaying optimisation potentials and their impact on the life cycle, thus offering the decision-maker a powerful management tool.

Safety

All questions and provisions relating to occupational safety during construction, operation, maintenance and repair of the track, in particular of the persons working there, are the focus of this field.

Construction site planning

This field of activity ensures the optimisation of complex track construction sites. It includes technical, legal and economic resource planning and formulates a competent process flow of the different activities of the construction site.
